MUSIC IS LIFE! THAT'S WHY OUR HEARTS HAVE BEATS <3

WELCOME TO MRS. G's MUSIC PAGE!

My schedule for the 2019-2020 school year is as follows:

Monday - Griebling

Tuesday - LOP

Wednesday - LOP

Thursday - Griebling

Friday - Griebling

My name is Meredith Ganter and I am the vocal music teacher at Griebling & Land O'Pines Schools. I would like to welcome you and your family into the music community here at Howell Township. I am very excited to have you here. Let's take this time to celebrate not only the hard work your child will put into the upcoming year in music class, but also the skills that they will develop through their experiences in the classroom. The lifelong benefits your child will obtain through music expand beyond the classroom and are transferable to every other academic subject.

Students attend a 40 minute music class once a week. Grading is based on participation, conduct and class activities. In music class, it is my expectation that students will always be:

Respectful - Quietly raising their hand, waiting their turn and treating others with kindness

Responsible - Treating instruments with respect and returning classroom materials to their appropriate location

Safe - Being aware of their surroundings when moving around the music room, staying in their assigned seats and keeping their hands, feet, and objects to themselves

It is my privilege to teach your child using music as our common language. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am available via email from 10am-2pm every weekday - mganter@howell.k12.nj.us

  • REMINDER TO ALL STUDENTS: YOU CAN CHOOSE TO COMPLETE AN "ADDITIONAL MUSIC ACTIVITY" ONCE A WEEK OR IN PLACE OF AN ASSIGNMENT!
  • Thank you to ALL who sent a "Typatone" message through Google Forms or email. I read every one with a smile. They were beautiful and SO special to me! <3

Kindergarten, 1st Grade & 2nd Grade - ALOHA AND WELCOME TO OUR END OF THE YEAR HAWAIIAN LUAU MUSIC CELEBRATION! :)

If you have any Hawaiian attire, you are welcome to put it on! Leis, grass skirts, tropical shirts, shorts or dresses, a flower in your hair or behind your ear, headband, sun hat, etc.

What is a luau? A luau is a party in Hawaii where you eat Hawaiian food, have entertainment, listen to music, hula dance and do the limbo!

Check out where Hawaii is located on a map, pictures of the island and a luau celebration: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HVNx3pPGnVFx3DD48aNXj0FAwWJuKpOw/view?usp=sharing

Listen and sing along to "Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride" from Lilo & Stitch: https://safeYouTube.net/w/PaaL

Dance to the song: https://safeYouTube.net/w/jbaL

Try to learn how to hula dance: https://safeYouTube.net/w/CbaL

Grab a limbo stick! During the limbo game, the object is to not let your body touch the stick as you are going underneath it. Some ways you can "limbo" under the stick is to lean backward, lean forward, walk like a dog, crawl like a crab, etc. Be creative! THANK YOU FOR A GREAT YEAR IN MUSIC! <3 https://safeYouTube.net/w/jfaL

Kindergarten, 1st Grade & 2nd Grade - This week, we are traveling around the world to the continent of Africa! Music is a major part of the African culture. The song "Che Che Kule" is a children's game song from Ghana, West Africa. This is a call and response song, which is when someone shouts or sings a phrase and gets a response back. In the United States, "Che Che Kule" is performed with movements similar to "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes." Once we learn the song, we will be performing the moves and playing the rhythm parts along with the song. If you do not have the instruments in the last video, find something at home that makes a shaking sound, use two pencils or two spoons for tapping, etc. Let's begin!

Kindergarten, 1st Grade & 2nd Grade - Rhythm is the core of all music! No matter the genre or instrument, rhythm is what gives the notes life and direction. This week, we will be working on drumming at home! Research has shown that drumming has improved mental and physical health by boosting the immune system, reducing stress and anxiety, releasing negative feelings and easing pain. Drumming is also used as a way to improve emotional, motor and cognitive development. Now, get ready to rock with BUCKET DRUMMING!
