Meet Mrs. DeRose

All About Me

Hello! My name is Emily DeRose and I couldn't be happier to be working with the first grade students at Griebling.  I graduated from The College of New Jersey and have known I wanted to be an elementary school teacher since I was in First Grade myself! This is my ninth year working with the first graders here at Griebling! I love working with younger students and watching their enthusiasm for learning grow with each and every discovery! As a teacher, I am passionate about;

- Making students feel valued, safe, and cared for!

- Creating a classroom community, it is the most important element to a successful learning experience!

- Letting them be little, bring the learning to them where they are right now and make learning accessible to each student!

- Make learning FUN! :)

When I'm not in the classroom, you can probably find my husband and I playing with our two dachshunds; Ollie and Nyla, at a dog park or dog beach! Another place to find me is a yoga studio! I fell in love with yoga seven years ago and have continued to practice ever since! I love doing headstands all over the place, you may even catch me doing a few in the classroom! With inspiration from yoga, I began my mindfulness teacher training for educators, hoping to incorporate mindfulness and Social Emotional Learning into my classroom and I am now a certified Teacher of Mindfulness for Kids! Another passion of mine is art; creating, painting, decorating sugar cookies, and sketching are some of my favorite things to do! I will never turn down a trip to the beach or a delicious, chocolate dessert!
