2 trick words: the, and

1 sentence: 

***Remember every sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a stop sign***

They all have the long /a/ sound- except for said which is your trick word.

Have mom dictate the following sentences and write them in your learning log:

I say, “That is great!”

Zach said, “Mom I want to play outside.”

Fundations: Unit 9- Closed Syllables

 

A closed syllable ends in a consonant and only has one vowel.

 

The vowel in a closed syllable is short, as in the word “math” or “cat”.

 

You must mark the vowel with a breve to indicate it is a short sound.

 

  • 1- Read, write and mark the following words in your learning log:

         pill         hush      chins    crash     fluffs     snug

Go to the back of the book and look for Unit 9 Test.

 

I am going to record myself on See Saw dictating the test to you.

 

Mom- pause and go back as much as you need to, have Zach listen carefully and tap out each sound, please take a picture of his test and post on See Saw!

 

We will begin Unit 10 this week!

Good Morning Zach:

 

Brand new Unit…Unit 10!

 

This unit will be working with closed syllables that have5 sounds. These are words that usually have a blend(2 consonants each with their own sound) at the beginning of the word and a blend at the end of the word.

 

Ex: slu mp   The sl is a blend and the mp is blend.

This unit will also work with words the suffixes s, ed and ing.

 

As well as the vowel teams:oa, oe, ow, ou, ue, au and aw.

 

I will be doing audio lessons for Zach (see the links below) to help out with this difficult Unit.

 The book Mercy Watson to the Rescue had a lot of fact and opinion in it.  

Ex: Eugenia thinks that pigs should not live in a house- That is her opinion.

Ned and Lorenzo were firemen.- That is a fact.

 

3- Go on to Raz kids.com and record a story for me to listen to and do the comprehension questions.
